Orientation prepares students for study and life in New Zealand
Students beginning their studies at AIC have been encouraged to embrace every opportunity available to them, both inside and outside the classroom.
Speaking at Orientation, Te Kaihapai and Academic and Quality Lead Sean Bell welcomed students to Auckland and introduced them to AIC's approach to experiential learning. Sean explained that AIC's lecturers are dual professionals, bringing both teaching expertise and industry experience into the classroom.
He encouraged students to approach their studies with integrity, get involved, and make the most of every opportunity available to them, from employability events and the Student Ambassador programme to publishing and presenting research. He said that AIC offered a wide range of opportunities and that staff were there to help them.
Orientation included sessions introducing students to campus services, student rights and responsibilities, IT systems, insurance, employment rights and responsibilities in New Zealand, and their programmes of study. Students also met their lecturers and took part in campus tours led by Student Mentors.
In the lead-up to Orientation, new learners attended workshops on life in New Zealand, employability services and industry engagement, and academic success. The sessions provided practical guidance on everyday life in Aotearoa New Zealand, introduced the support available throughout students' studies, and explored topics including experiential learning, critical thinking, research skills, and the ethical use of artificial intelligence.
