Current Projects
The Learner Journey Mapping: This project aims to develop detailed learner journey maps and personas to identify and address the diverse needs of different learner segments. By gathering and analysing data from various learner groups, including Māori, Pasifika, disabled, and low prior achievement learners, this initiative seeks to tailor support services effectively. The project will enhance student success by providing timely, personalised support, ultimately creating an inclusive learning environment that promotes equity and success for all learners. This project is externally funded.
Guidelines to Ensure Māori Data Sovereignty in the ICT Sector of New Zealand: This project explores the awareness, implementation, and challenges of Māori Data Sovereignty (MDS) in New Zealand’s ICT sector, highlighting its critical role in ensuring that Māori data is controlled according to Māori values and sovereignty. Despite its importance, there is a concerning lack of awareness among ICT professionals, with only a small fraction demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of MDS principles. Key challenges identified include inconsistent implementation, stakeholder resistance, and the absence of formal legislative support. The study recommends targeted education, stronger legislative measures, and better stakeholder engagement to enhance MDS integration and governance. It underscores the urgent need for collaborative efforts to uphold MDS, ensuring Māori communities maintain control over their data, while contributing to the global dialogue on Indigenous data rights.
