News and events

I received my BSc, MSc and PhD in Computer Science/Engineering, and between 2007 and 2020, I had an invaluable opportunity to carry out my post-doctoral research and participate in a joint R&D project for developing a high-performance and low-power supercomputing system, at Kyushu University, one of the major universities in Japan, in collaboration with four other major universities and research centres.

My research was initially focused on computer systems architecture and design automation, however since 2012, I have been working in multidisciplinary areas where I can utilise my knowledge and experience with AI, Data Analytics, Internet-of-Things, and Cloud/Fog Computing to solve problems in various domains including primary education, environment conservation, and societal problems.

Between 2013 and 2016, I led a team of researchers in Japan working on a funded project for developing a smart system for monitoring pests. In 2017, I led another research project, where my team worked on a multi-tier solution based on AI and robotics technologies for promoting STEAM subjects in primary schools. We exhibited our prototype product in primary schools in Auckland and at several public events such as Global AI Bootcamp at Microsoft, Auckland, and Super STEM Fair at MOTAT.

Recently, I have been awarded funding for a new research project, in which I and my research partners are working on AI and statistical models for predicting crime in New Zealand. Three GDIT students from OPAIC as research associates have made a significant contribution to this project and we are planning to publish a few papers on our findings in local and international venues.

During my research career, I have partnered with researchers from Japan, Australia, Europe, Middle East and the US across different research projects. I have published about 100 peer-reviewed articles in reputable venues (See my Google Scholar profile here) and have served on the organising/technical program committees of numerous conferences and journals. I am a senior member of IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional organisation.
