An applied mathematics expert from China visited OPAIC recently, sparking valuable discussions and paving the way for an ongoing partnership.

Dr Xiwen Lu from East China University of Science and Technology is a professor and doctoral supervisor. He currently serves as director of the Institute of Applied Mathematics. He is also leader of the China Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics and Vice President of the Shanghai Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics.

During his visit, Dr Lu met with members of the OPAIC team, including Academic Director Russell Harray, Research Director and Head of IT Dr Farhad Mehdipour, Employability Manager Dani Mao, and other academic staff.

He also presented his research, sparking insightful discussions on potential collaborations and shared opportunities.

Dr Lu’s main research interests are scheduling theory, optimisation theory and applications, and mathematical modelling. He has published more than 100 academic papers in international academic journals and undertakes national research projects.

He currently delivers courses on Mathematical Modelling for undergraduate students, Optimisation Theory and Methods for graduate students, and Theory of Computing Complexity for doctoral students.

The visit served as a platform to explore innovative ways to enhance teaching and research through technology. It also marks the beginning of a promising partnership between OPAIC and East China University of Science and Technology. We are excited about the future prospects of this collaboration and look forward to advancing global academic excellence together.
