AIC lecturer publishes ethics and sustainability study

AIC Senior Lecturer Jimmy Sun has had his latest research into ethical and sustainable business practices published in one of the world's leading journals in management and sustainability.

His article, “Navigating Ethical Minefields: Micro-Foundations of Corporate Political Work in Ethical and Sustainable Business Performance”, has been published in Business Strategy and the Environment.

Jimmy worked on the project with researchers from RMIT University in Australia, the University of North Florida in the United States, the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom, and Institut Mines-Télécom in France.

The study explores how businesses can maintain ethical practices and sustainable performance while operating in increasingly uncertain political, economic, and environmental conditions.

Using data from 377 firms and a detailed case study of a major infrastructure company, the researchers found that environmental instability can weaken organisations' ethical commitments, increase conflict between business partners, and reduce long-term performance.

The research also found that organisations with stronger ethical responsibilities are better equipped to manage conflict and navigate uncertainty.

According to the study, ethical governance and strong stakeholder relationships can help businesses respond more effectively to regulatory challenges and changing external conditions.

The findings provide new insights into how organisations can balance political pressures, ethical responsibilities, and sustainability goals in complex business environments.
