Succes Story: Anosha Dissanayake

A Sri Lankan student with senior government experience is gaining valuable hands-on exposure to New Zealand’s workforce through her internship.

Anosha Dissanayake previously worked as Deputy Director (Planning) at the Provincial Ministry of Road Development and Transport in Sri Lanka.

She decided to enrol with OPAIC because she knew the institute supported students in gaining practical exposure to industry sectors alongside their theoretical studies.

Highlights of her study journey so far have included the good lecturers, peaceful and supportive study environment, exposure to different cultures, and industry experience.

Anosha has now secured an internship role as an Office Administrator with Elevate Christian Disability Trust, with the help of our Employability Centre.

She says she is very much enjoying her internship which mainly involves administrative work.

“With the knowledge gained through my master’s programme and the practical experience I am acquiring during my internship, I hope to gain an administration position within the New Zealand government or the private sector.”

She encourages her fellow students to take every opportunity OPAIC offers that is relevant to helping them achieve their career goals.

Employability Manager Dani Mao says Anosha’s quick transition into the local workforce via her internship highlights her adaptability and proactive approach.

Dani says the Employability Centre is committed to supporting its learners holistically - helping international students make informed career decisions based on their values, goals, and interests.

“We create networking opportunities, deliver engaging workshops, facilitate internships, guide part-time job searching and provide expert support to ensure our students are career-ready and confident in the job market.”
