Students gain networking skills at employability event

The Employability department accompanied eight Auckland International Campus students to an off-site panel and networking opportunity last week.

Organised by Lume PR and Events with support from AIC, the event Employability Edge: Aligning Your Personality with the 2026 NZ Job Market included panellists such as Maria Pooley, Ronnie Cheung, and AIC’s own Dani Mao.

Students met on campus and walked to the event location with Employability Specialist, Nicki Trueman, who shared pre-event networking tips.

Key ideas from the evening included: how to be the architect of your career DNA, decoding the NZ job market in 2026, and the recruiter’s reality check.

One theme that stood out across all discussions was the importance of connection and networking, with one student shared the takeaway: “Your career doesn’t start with a job. It starts with a connection.”

Despite taking a group of eight students, it was also great to see many other AIC students there showing their support, whether volunteering with event set-up or attending the session. This strong presence reflected a high level of engagement and enthusiasm from the wider student community.
