Lecturer selected for prestigious AI education research group
An AIC Senior Lecturer has been selected for a prestigious international research working group focused on artificial intelligence in computing education.
Dr Asanthika Imbulpitiya has been chosen to join a Working Group at the 2026 Innovation and Technology in Computer Science Education (ITiCSE) conference.
ITiCSE is a leading international conference for computing and informatics education. Held annually since 1996, the conference will take place in Madrid, Spain, in July.
AIC Research Director Dr Farhad Mehdipour says ITiCSE Working Groups are highly competitive international collaborations that bring together researchers to investigate emerging issues in computing education.
The collaborations run over an extended period and culminate in a substantial peer-reviewed publication in the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) proceedings.
Farhad says selection for a Working Group is a significant recognition of a researcher's expertise and places Asanthika among a small group of international researchers contributing to emerging conversations about agentic AI in computing education.
Asanthika has also been awarded a Henry Walker Travel Grant to support her attendance at the conference. Asanthika was one of five conference participants to receive a grant.
