Construction student presents at symposium
OPAIC Construction student Yanxi (Kiki) Long presented her green building research at a symposium this month.
Kiki’s paper was titled "Enhancing Green Star in New Zealand: A comparative analysis of global rating systems and improvement in sustainability perspective".
She presented it at the OPSITARA event, hosted by Otago Polytechnic in Dunedin. The event is part of the wider ITP Research Symposium 2025, which showcases research undertaken by staff and students across the vocational sector.
Kiki says her paper received strong recognition from the academic staff and industry professionals present.
“The meaningful interaction and rich experience gave me tremendous confidence and inspiration,” she says.
At the symposium, Kiki met many people who share her passion for green building and sustainable development.
“I learned a lot from their insights and connected with talented academics and practitioners.”
She says it was an unforgettable experience that broadened her perspective. She hopes more students will participate in future symposia and showcase their research.
Kiki’s thankful to the OPAIC team for giving her the opportunity to present at the symposium, especially Senior Lecturer Srividya Krishnamoorthy and all her other lecturers who have mentored and guided her throughout her academic journey.
“I am also very thankful to Head of Student Success Rebecca Hayes for her unwavering support and encouragement,” she says.
“Most importantly, I appreciate Otago Polytechnic Auckland International Campus giving me this valuable experience and opportunity.”
