AIC welcomes new students to campus

We’re welcoming our new students to campus with a week of activities to help them settle in ahead of the start of classes.

Academic and Quality Lead and Te Kaihapai Sean Bell welcomed students to Auckland, describing it as one of the world’s most cosmopolitan cities, with more than 42 percent of residents born overseas. He said people come from around the world to study, work, and build a better life.

Sean introduced the Māori concept of ako, describing it as a shared learning process where everyone is expected to give and receive knowledge. He encouraged students to build confidence through practical learning they can apply in their own projects and future careers, with a focus on learning that can be used beyond the classroom.

He also highlighted integrity (whakapono) as a core value, encouraging students to live their values consistently, especially when things are hard or they feel under pressure. That was the time to dig in, live their values, and reach out to AIC’s wide range of support services for help if needed.

This week’s Orientation activities have included an IT induction covering topics such as student logins, wi-fi access, and student email. Students also attended an insurance presentation, an employability session on workplace rights and responsibilities in New Zealand, and an academic orientation where lecturers introduced each programme and answered student questions.

Earlier in the week, students also took part in a Life in New Zealand workshop, an Employability Services and Industry Engagement workshop, and an Academic Success Workshop to support their transition into study and life in Aotearoa New Zealand.
